Lost Mobile Blocking and Tracking System Ready to Launch

Lost mobile blocking and tracking system Sanchar Saathi is ready to launch in India. Now Indian smartphone users will soon be able to easily block and track their stolen mobiles. The Government of India is about to launch this tracking system on May 17, 2023 (on the occasion of World Telecom Day).

Sanchar Saathi Portal is an initiative to empower and secure Indian mobile users. With the help of this, it will be easy to find and track lost mobile of people. CDoT (Centre for Department of Telematics) is already running the CEIR system as a pilot project in some telecom regions (Maharashtra, Delhi, North East Region, and Karnataka). But now it will be available all over India.

With the help of this system, all telecom networks will easily detect if a mobile clone is in use.

Why this Step is being Taken and How it Works

Stolen and lost mobile phones are now national security issue for Indian Government.  Just because of this, these steps are being taken. The government of India has made it mandatory to disclose IMEI number (which is a 15-digit unique numeric identifier) for each mobile device before selling in India.

All telecom networks can access the list of approved IEMI numbers. Through this, telecom networks are able to check any entry of unauthorized smartphones (or GSM mobile phones) on their network very easily.

CEIR system (blocking, and tracking system of mobile phones) and Telecom companies will be able to access the IMEI number of the device as well as the mobile number linked to it. Some states already using this CEIR system to track stolen mobiles.

Many times, we see that after stealing the mobile, the thief also changes its IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. As a result, it becomes impossible to block or track the mobile. But now it is not like that. Since it has become a national issue, now with the help of this system, stolen mobiles can be easily tracked and blocked. This network will also block cloned mobile phones.

How Sanchar Saathi Portal (blocking and tracking system) will help smartphone users

  • Reporting lost and stolen phones through this portal will be very easy.
  • It (blocking and tracking system) will block lost and stolen phones.
  • It discourages the theft of mobile phones.
  • Police can easily trace lost, stolen, and cloned phones. Also, it restricts the use of cloned phones.
  • It will protect the consumers by making them aware of fake and cloned mobile phones.
  • Users will have the ability to access their SIM information and block the SIM if they find someone using it under their ID. This means fraudsters will avoid buying the SIM with another person’s ID.
  • Consumers can check the genuineness of the device while buying a new or second-hand phone.
  • Consumers can also find out the number of mobile connections taken in their name or under their ID through the Sanchar Saathi module, TAFCOP. It provides the facility to report the mobile number which is not required or not taken by the particular user.

Summary

There is no doubt that CEIR system module (blocking and tracking system) of the Sanchar Saathi portal will prove to be very beneficial for Indian mobile phone users in the coming times. TAFCOP module of Sanchar Saathi is already helping users in many states. The CEIR system module enables the finding and blocking of lost phones. This will not only help Indian users but will also help the police and various telecom networks a lot. Now no one will be able to use cloned mobile. No one will be able to tamper with IEMI numbers on any phone. It will be interesting to see what else this system can do in the coming times for users.
