AI startup company HuggingFace has released its AI-powered chatbot HuggingChat, which can be seen as an alternative to ChatGPT. Anyone can download and use it. HuggingChat can draft emails, write code, and do much more that we expect from ChatGPT.
HuggingChat is based on Open Assistant (a project organized by LAION) which aims to replicate ChatGPT. LAION (Large Scale Artificial Intelligence Open Network) is global non-profit organisation provides access to technology as open source.

Training Dataset of HuggingChat
- It is trained with OASST1 (Open Assistant Conversations Dataset).
- The information within it was gathered as of April 12, 2023, making it exceptionally fresh.
- This chatbot uses the RLHF (reinforcement learning from human response) model which is the same model created and used by OpenAI. With the release of this model, RLHF technology is available to anyone who wants to train AI.
- Although the HuggingChat dataset is not 100% free from harmful content, the company still stands behind it as it has gone through rigorous quality guidelines.

- Click on Start chatting.
- Again, Click on Start chatting.

Limitations of HuggingFace
HuggingChat strictly follows a privacy procedure that involves storing messages exclusively for the user’s viewing. It cannot share for research or training purposes.
The system currently does not use cookies to authenticate or identify users, However, there are plans to enable users to share their conversations with researchers in the future.
Difference between HuggingChat and ChatGPT
- At present HuggingChat is not reliable as compared to ChatGPT.
- Compared to ChatGPT, this chatbot is currently operating at a slower speed.
- Sometimes this chatbot is prone to inaccurate responses but not ChatGPT.
- This chatbot apologizes for the wrong answer but not ChatGPT. It seems ChatGPT lie better than this chatbot.
- This chatbot is in its early stages and not as mature as ChatGPT.
- Since HuggingChat is in its initial stage it does not give output as ChatGPT. ChatGPT gives more accurate and correct information.
- HuggingChat has necessary safeguards in place to prevent misuse.
- This chatbot also warns the user that “the content generated may be incorrect or false” but ChatGPT does not.
Conclusion
HuggingChat aims to provide everyone an AI assistant that is very friendly and gives responses similar to human reactions. This AI chatbot is available to everyone now. User can use it even without registration.
It is currently available to try through web interface only. Through this web interface user can write emails, compose rap and write code. The commercial usability of it is still uncertain at this time. Based on Meta’s LLaMA, the HuggingChat model may be subject to limitations on commercial use.
