This new team at Meta will start by building “creative and expressive tools” and will over time, AI will develop personality to help people. Persona will be built into chatting apps (WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger) as well as Instagram.

The AI personality could be available on WhatsApp and Messenger in the form of a chatbot that would allow people to interact with each other. Snapchat already works pretty much the same way. AI may use in the form of creative filters and ads on Instagram.

Zuckerberg has acknowledged that there is still a lot of work need to be done before the company can achieve a “truly futuristic experience”. If say in other language, we should expect AI-based features first and then proper AI chatbots will come.

Chatbots are nothing new on Messenger. The messaging platform gained chatbot support back in 2016 itself. Many companies that time plugged their bots into it to provide a better experience. However, a built-in ChatGPT-like bot would be the first of its kind.
